To Teach is to Learn Again

One of my favorite expressions is, 'To teach is to learn again.' It's true, once you teach something you understand it 90% more effectively than if you just listen to it passively. I was reminded of this last weekend when SSL went to demonstrate our footwork program at the Irvine Mud Run. We were showing the runners the programming and sharing how vital it is to train your feet.

Most of the wonderful people we met hadn't really thought about their feet. They assumed running was about leg power and good shoes. Once we talked to them and let them try the pipes, slant board and balancing discs they could see the value. We had many people have that, 'Aha!' moment. They started to get it.

As much fun as it was to watch them get it, we had just as much fun watching them get it. The more questions they asked, the more information we were able to share. We were able to share just how essential the big toe is in running but in other athletic events. We met some teenagers lacrosse players who were amazed by how great the pipes felt and saw the value in how it could help them. We had quite a few people who had been battling plantar fasciitis try the pipes and immediately saw the benefits.

Overall the event was a success. We were able to meet some wonderful people and share our information with them. As a result we were able to share our excitement. It was a definite win-win situation.
