One Foot Raises

Balance and posture are key components to our health. As we get older it is more difficult to maintain balance and posture. Doing One Foot Raises is a proven method that ballerinas use to help strengthen their foot muscles. Strengthening your foot muscles will allow you to find balance which in turn, will improve your posture. Having better balance and posture will allow you to maintain a pain free active lifestyle.

Procedure:

Make sure that you are barefoot.
Rise up on the balls of one foot as if you are reaching for something on a high shelf. Repeat this a few times to warm up your foot. Make sure your knee is slightly bent.
Now rise up on the ball of your foot and try to hold yourself in this position. The goal is to stay on the ball of your foot until you lose form. Switch to your right foot and repeat. Repeat this process three to form times.

Tips:

It helps to stand by a wall, chair, or something stable when you are first starting out.
Losing form can consist of dropping your heel, or of waving your arms around to keep your balance. If you lose form, move on to the other foot, and come back to your first foot.

Wow. That is harder than it looks! Is this an everyday exercise, or every day?
