This World Cup

This World Cup has and is generating a level of excitement that has been missing in the world of professional sports. I feel like this Cup is particularly situated in a turbulent historical moment and has the potential to ameliorate, at least temporarily, some of the surging tensions within the international community. Among plunging economic deficits, political and theological violence, and pronouncements of bankruptcies by some of the largest nations the world is in dire need of something to smile about.
