Training Programs

What differentiates the SSL program is that we prepare our athletes to be able to handle whatever adversity their respective sport may throw at them. We are truly trying to build the Perfect Athlete by improving all of the qualities that an elite athlete needs to be successful and not just his/her ability to move heavy weight in a linear fashion at a slow rate of speed.

Athletes need coordination, rhythm, timing, balance, proprioception, joint mobility, muscle flexibility, muscle balance, all types of strength, awareness of space, reactive ability, foot strength, biomechanical efficiency, mental abilities, confidence, and of course sport specific skill. Conventional training methods that are solely focused on the maximum weight lifted do not adequately address the needs of ANY elite athlete.

High school and college strength and conditioning programs in general fall far short in terms of properly preparing athletes for their sports. We literally address all of the needs of each athlete from head to toe and it starts with a proper evaluation.

The evaluation process will reveal the training priorities whether it be flexibility, core strength, muscular strength, biomechanics of running or jumping or all of the above. Once the priorities are established the appropriate remedies can be assigned. Building The Perfect Athlete is no different than building the perfect house, it all starts with the proper foundation.

The proper foundation for sports starts with the feet as they control the body’s ability to move in space. This basic fact is ignored by almost all known training facilities. SSL trains not only the strength of the foot and ankle but also it’s flexibility with unique training tools which can also be purchased for at home use.

The Ballwork program is used to improve core strength, muscle flexibility, joint mobility, core strength, coordination, speed of muscular contraction and control of the limbs in different ranges of motion and planes of movement.

The athlete then progresses to the Accelerating Isokinetic machines to further improve their foundational strength.  These machines were proven by Russian scientists in the early 1980’s to provide the fastest known strength gains, the greatest neural stimulation without causing Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness and eliminates the possibility of injury during training as there is no weight load put on the athlete.  DOMS requires 72 hours to recover from, whereas Accelerating Isokinetics can literally be done every day if needed. Pilates machines are used to improve hip strength and teach proper landing in jumping. Customized Glut Ham machines are used to safely improve strength of the entire core.

Once the proper foundation of strength has been established the use of Customized Plyometric strength machines can be implemented. Plyometric principles are widely known to be one the fastest methods of improving athletic power. However the methods used histroically bring a large risk of injury. This risk is eliminated with the custom machines and allows for great improvements in muscle speed of contraction which is the dominant factor in producing sport specific strength.

One of the key factors in improving sports performance is the improvement in the biomechanics of running, jumping, hitting, throwing, and lateral movement. I have been studying this all my life and have discovered that there is a Universal Law of Human Biomechanics that applies to ALL athletic movements. Leonardo Da Vinci discovered over 600 years ago that the human body had geometric proportion to it. Therefore the human body works maximally only at specific joint angles. These can be taught and completely dismisses the notion that athleticism is only a genetic trait. Athleticism is a neurological ability that can be trained and improved on anyone. Of course there are people that are better genetically predisposed for athletics but as all current research has proven it can be dramatically improved regardless of genetics.
