Alfred Rheeder, managing director of PVM, first came across Sport Science Lab in 2011. Subsequently, PVM founded SSL South Africa in Bloemfontein. In 2014, SSL SA moved to one of SA's capitals and home of the Vodacom Blue Bulls, Pretoria. SSL SA, powered by PVM, have been involved in the conditioning of two of the country's major rugby franchises, the Toyota Cheetas and Vodacom Blue Bulls as well as the SA National team, the Springboks. PVM also sponsors SA athletes Akani Simbine (Common Wealth 100m gold medalist) Wayde van Niekerk (400m Olympic gold medalist and World record holder) Estie van Tonder (national kayak champion), Magda Nieuwoudt (Pro Triathlete), Arno Botha (South African Rugby player), Wian Sullwald (Pro triathlete), Cornel Fredericks (SA 400m hurdler) and many others.
Asics is a Japanese multinational athletic equipment company which produces footwear and equipment for a variety of sports. In 2015 Asics approached SSL to be part of their newly constructed Sports Performance Center in Irvine, California. Asics currently sponsor international atheletes and sporting teams which include Johanna Konta (Pro women's tennis player), Lolo Jones (Olympic medal hurdler), Helen Jenkins (Tri-athlete), the South African and Australian national rugby teams and USA field hockey teams.
